Young Artist Plein Air Scholarship

My first plein air painting experience-1995

Fifteen years ago, I was invited by Gary Carter to come to a workshop by the Cowboy Artist's of America in Montana.  As a kid just out of high school, it was an eye opening experience.  I believe it is important to give back as others have given to me.  Therefore, I'm offering a scholarship for free tuition to a plein air workshop (of your choice) that I will be teaching in 2011.  Any student between the ages of 16-25  is eligible to apply. (Minors will need to be accompanied by an adult.) If you know of anyone who would benefit from this please let them know. I will be collecting entries until March 30th, 2011. To apply, please email haley@bryanmarktaylor.com with four images of your current work and a brief paragraph of why this workshop would benefit you and your future.

Thanks and happy painting!

Bryan

Wow, Bryan, this is an terrific idea and reveals your generous spirit. For the next great plein air painter just might be discovered in this manner. The one thing many of us don't have is 50+ years to mature and to find a someone with talents and interest while they are still young, and set them on the plein air path would be awesome.

Because you've shared this idea, I am thinking of doing the same thing with the workshop I lead. (Giving you credit, of course.) It's such a fine idea, and perhaps if enough of us do it that unknown, future great plein air painter will catch the bug and emerge.

A fine idea indeed.

Thanks Thomas,

This idea came out of a discussion I had with John Burton this week. So I can't take all the credit.

Good thing to do Bryan. I got a scholarship back in 1961 to the Art Center School of Design in LA and because of that and other nice things being done for me I have been giving scholarships ever since. I am sure that there are others teaching out there that are doing the same thing and hope that more will do it. I think one should consider doing it for all ages as there are a lot of older folks who love art and can't afford a workshop that I know would really appreciate such a thing. Keep up the good work!
